QUALIA

Privacy Policy

Last updated: [Date]

Qualia is built on a simple promise: what you put here is yours, and it stays private unless you choose otherwise. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what we do — and don't do — with it.

1. Who we are

Qualia is operated by [Your Business Entity Name] ("we", "us", "our"). For any privacy questions, contact us at [your-email@example.com].

2. What we collect

We collect only what is necessary to run Qualia for you:

  • Account information. Your email address and a password (stored as a hash by our authentication provider). Your display name and username are optional.
  • Your journal entries. Text, voice transcripts, photos, tags, moods, locations, dates, and anything else you add to your daybook.
  • Marginalia. Text you import from articles or paste manually, plus the notes and highlights you add to it.
  • Shared content. Entries, comments, group posts, and invitations you create or accept when you choose to share with other Qualia users.
  • Device and app data. Local preferences (theme, notification settings, recent account list) are stored in your browser's localStorage. A service worker may cache content for offline use.

We do not collect your contacts, browsing history outside Qualia, or any other data from your device.

3. How we use your data

We use your data only to provide and improve Qualia:

  • To store your entries, photos, and notes and sync them across your devices.
  • To power optional AI features such as transcription, summaries, and connection suggestions — only when you explicitly use them.
  • To enable sharing, groups, and comments when you choose to use them.
  • To send you account-related notifications.

4. AI processing

Some Qualia features use AI to help you make sense of your own archive. When you use a voice memo, we send the audio to an AI transcription service. When you ask for a summary or insight, your content is processed through our AI gateway.

We only send data to AI providers for the specific feature you trigger. We do not use your content to train third-party models, and we do not permit our AI providers to train their models on it. We do not send your journal to AI for analysis without your action.

You can switch AI off for your account at any time in Profile → Privacy and sharing. With AI off, transcription, summaries, and Marginalia analysis are disabled and no content leaves Qualia for AI processing.

Current AI subprocessors: OpenAI (for voice transcription) and Google (for text and vision features), accessed through the Lovable AI Gateway.

5. What we do not do

We do not run ads. We do not sell your data. We do not share your journal entries, photos, or mood data with advertisers, data brokers, or social platforms. We do not use tracking cookies or analytics scripts that follow you across the web.

Nothing you create in Qualia becomes public unless you explicitly publish or share it. Private by default means exactly that.

6. Who can see your data

  • You. Your daybook entries, photos, and Marginalia are visible only to you.
  • People you share with. When you share an entry, publish a post, or invite someone to a group, only those specific people can see it. You control whether each share can be passed on.
  • Us. We access your data only when necessary to operate the service, respond to a support request, or investigate a security issue.
  • Our infrastructure provider. Qualia runs on Lovable Cloud, which stores and processes data on our behalf under strict confidentiality and security obligations.

7. Cookies and local storage

Qualia uses only essential, first-party storage: your session token, recent account list, and local preferences. We do not use third-party cookies, advertising identifiers, or cross-site tracking.

8. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your journal entries, photos, shares, and profile as soon as technically possible. Some residual backups may persist for a limited period before being purged automatically.

You can export your data at any time from your Profile panel. You can also delete individual entries or photos whenever you like.

9. Security

We protect your data using industry-standard measures: TLS encryption in transit, row-level security in the database so each user's data is isolated, hashed passwords, and signed URLs for photo access. No system is perfect, but we designed Qualia so that a breach of one account cannot expose another.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your personal data. You can do most of this directly inside Qualia through your Profile and the data export tool. For anything else, email us at [your-email@example.com].

11. Age and consent for minors

Qualia is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use the Service or create an account.

If you are at least 13 but under 16 years old, you may only use Qualia with the verifiable consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms and the Privacy Policy on your behalf. By creating an account for a minor in this age range, the parent or guardian represents that they are legally authorized to consent and accepts responsibility for the minor's activity on the Service.

If you are 16 or older, you may use Qualia on your own behalf.

If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child under the applicable age threshold without proper consent, we will delete that information as soon as possible. If you believe a minor has provided us data without appropriate consent, contact us at [your-email@example.com].

12. Your wellbeing

Qualia does not scan, monitor, score, or flag your entries for any subject matter, including self-harm or mental health. No human at Qualia reads your journal, and there is no automated review of what you write. Your private writing stays private.

Because of that, Qualia cannot detect a crisis or get help to you. It is a journaling tool, not a health, therapy, or emergency service. If you are struggling, these lines are staffed by people who can help:

  • United States: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line).
  • Anywhere else: findahelpline.com lists free, confidential support by country.
  • If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number.

13. International users

Your data is stored where Lovable Cloud hosts it, which may include servers in the United States. By using Qualia, you consent to this transfer and storage. We handle data in accordance with this policy and applicable law.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Qualia evolves. If we make a material change, we'll notify you by email or by posting a notice in the app before the change takes effect.
